Stability is more than just a strong tummy
Stability has been sold as something that stiffens the core, or centre of the body - something that you do by muscle power and muscle power alone. That's not how it happens in real life. In real life we want the muscles and joints to configure themselves to be comfortable, safe and controlled, whatever shape your body adopts.
This class gives tips on how to teach your body to find dynamic stability with:
Yoga pose "the Crane as a dance move"
Cat-yawn stretches
Pilates 100 that de-loads the lower abs and upward-loads the upper abs
Sit up in bed and breaking wave roll up
Rocking chair rolling and bent knee teaser
Single straight leg stretch with crocodile snaps
Spine stretch forward: wrists on ribs & breaking wave
V-sit flexibility test & Slo-mo saw
Roman feast: hands hips and knee lift
Classic side-lying: keep the weight light between head and hand
Stretch band windscreen wiper to preserve your hip joints
Mermaid in hurdle stretch configuration
Door jamb squat and latrine squat
(And quite a lot more)
